Adam Nicolopoulos

 

 

Prior to ADN, Adam spent over 17 years with UBS (London, Zurich, New York and San Francisco) focusing on funding transportation infrastructure including roads, airports, ports and mass transit systems and energy/power generation assets. His clients included DOTs, government authorities, other public bodies and private sector firms. In addition to UBS, Adam worked for NatWest Markets (presently known as RBS) from 1994 until 1997 in London leading the execution of international and UK project advisory mandates.

In the US, his experience includes advising public sector entities (TxDOT, NJDOT, Caltrans and other state DOTs) as well as private companies. He worked on over 10 PPP-type and road concession deals, including with bidders on their tender for the acquisition of major US road assets and on the development of two greenfield container port terminals in the Gulf of Mexico.

On the private side, he has also advised investors, international contractors and developers in structuring optimal financing solutions (bonds, bank debt and/or equity financing) and implementing selected financings. Internationally, in 2003, he brought the first ever rated project bond to the market for a road project in Eastern Europe. He led the team that advised a number of governmental entities (including ministries of finance and transportation) on the application of PPPs and concessions across a wide range of economic sectors. In addition, while with UBS (Project Finance team), Adam advised on about 2,500 MW of independent power stations in the US and Europe, involving a variety of fuel types (from indigenous fuel to renewable sources).

Adam holds an MBA from Stern School of Business at NYU (graduated with honors on a full university scholarship), an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley (honors) and a BSc in the same field from Columbia University. Certifications include Series 7, 79 and 63. He was Visiting Scholar at Stanford University for four years and has had speaking engagements at over 30 national and international conferences on topics relating to financing infrastructure, PPPs and financial innovation.

• Presenter at the CGLA Global Infrastructure Forum repeatedly (including most recently in March 2018). Adam’s project was nominated for Global Strategic Project of the Year (2018) – runner up.

• Invited by Columbia University to team a short summer course in Infrastructure Finance and Investment (summer 2018) • Stanford University Visiting Scholar (2008 - 2012) and guest lecturer on international project development and finance.

• Invited by AIMCO to guest lecture (day long) for a mini-courses on PPPs, energy and infrastructure finance. Course hosted by University of Alberta, Edmonton.

• Mentored over 35 Stanford MBA/other students as interns (two interns per year). Most were offered investment banking positions (UBS Investment Bank; Citi; etc.) upon graduation/completion.

• Guest presenter and/or panel presenter on over 35 of international and US national conferences including in Basle (invited by the Clinton Climate Initiative / C40 Group); and 2012 Infrastructure.
